Sars or severe acute respiratory syndrome is one of the most dangerous diseases that touched the human race. Its symptoms are similar to the flu, so that is one of the reasons for which it is very hard to distinguish between the two. The virus is very dangerous and since its discovery, it has affected many people from around the world, causing severe breathing problems and even death. The treatment for Sars is very difficult, in the sense that the patient needs to be under constant medical surveillance, to take specific pills and use auxiliary breathing apparatus. Scientists say that the virus is still very powerful, the root of Sars has not yet been eradicated and can outbreak at any time.

The most dangerous epidemic burst out in 2003 and put the lives of many people in danger, eventually becoming an international problem. The Sars outbreak started in Hong Kong and spread in more than 35 countries. The symptoms are similar to the flu and they involve high fever, coughing, difficulty in breathing and very high fever. The means by which the disease can be spread are various. One of them is sexual or casual contact with a person that has been infected with the virus; so, the best solution is to avoid any touch or approach with an infected person. Another means of getting the virus is traveling in countries that have been diagnosed with Sars epidemic or eat any animal product that comes from an infected country. Moreover, the disease can be spread by migrating birds or bats that, at a first glance, do not show signs of carrying the disease.

The medication used in treating Sars is quite scarce. Traditional antibiotics have little or no effect on the virus. Still, there is specific medication that can be used to alleviate the effects of Sars, such as high doses of steroids, antiviral pills or antibiotics used when treating severe cases of pneumonia, as well as oxygen tanks used to easy the breathing of the patient.

It is thus important to keep our health at a good level, regardless of the disease, and treat the possible symptoms from the very beginning, when the first signs of body imbalance appear.
